02 Preparing Your Device
2.1 Camera Compatibility
DJI RS 5 supports a maximum payload of 3 kg. Ensure your camera, lens, and accessories do not exceed this limit.
2.2 Device Charging
Charge the battery for activation before first use. Activation is complete when the battery level indicators turn on. When the device is off, press the battery level button to view the current battery level.
2.3 Attaching Tripod and Gimbal
① Mount the extended grip/tripod to the battery grip and unfold the tripod.
② Mount the gimbal onto the grip, listen for a click, then press down on the grip mount, and tighten the grip level.
2.4 Mounting the Camera and Balancing

Move the roll and tilt locks to the unlocked position respectively and unfold the two axes, then lock the axes to continue to the next step.

Ensure the gimbal is powered off before mounting the camera.

For optimal image stabilization and gimbal performance, balance the gimbal before use.
2.5 Device Activation
Activate DJI RS 5 by using the DJI Ronin app. Download and install the DJI Ronin app first.
Press and hold the power button to power on the gimbal, then open the DJI Ronin app, and follow the on-screen instructions for connection and activation.
2.6 Firmware Update
When the DJI Ronin app shows that new firmware is available, follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware for optimal performance.
2.7 Auto Tune
On the touchscreen home page, tap the Auto Tune icon, or press and hold both the M button and the Trigger button to start automatic calibration. The gimbal automatically adjusts motor stiffness according to the payloads to ensure optimal operation.
