FCC Covered List Won’t Impact Existing DJI Drones
Drone pilots in the USA are currently dealing with uncertainty around the NDAA and FCC Covered List, especially regarding the DJI drones they already own. There are also questions about whether or not they can purchase more DJI drones in the future.
In this post, we will break down what the FCC Covered List regulates and how it affects DJI drones in the future.
What is the FCC Covered List?
The FCC Covered List includes companies whose telecommunications and radio equipment are deemed a national security risk, leading to restrictions in the USA. The companies listed may no longer receive FCC authorization in the future, making products from said companies illegal to purchase.
The FCC Covered List's Impact on DJI Drones
When the FCC Covered List was updated in December 2025, DJI was one of the companies included. This indicates that new DJI radio-based products (including drones) will not receive FCC authorization in the future.
However, this list does not affect older DJI models that have been circulating in the USA before the list update.
DJI drone models that have received FCC authorization before the list update remain legal to purchase, own, and fly in US airspace. Hence, the DJI drones that you already own can still be used as normal. Retailers can also sell older DJI models that were introduced in the USA before the list update, and purchasing new older model drones is 100% legal.
The FCC Covered List is a more forward-looking regulation, with no retroactive actions.
What Will Happen to Service and Spare Parts?
Same with the drones, all drone spare parts that are FCC certified before the update are legal to use and purchase. This includes all radio-based parts like controllers, goggles, and flight units. Parts and accessories, such as batteries, propellers, and chargers, are unaffected and remain available in the market.
Impact on DJI's Existing Products in the US Market
DJI retailers are still allowed to import and sell previously FCC-authorized DJI drones, so the biggest impact for DJI's customer base is the drone variety. Entering 2026, there won't be any new DJI models legal to fly unless there is an exception.
Stock availability will fluctuate as well, but it shouldn't be a problem if you purchase from a DJI Authorized Retailer like djiusa.com. More importantly, purchasing from an official retailer ensures continued support and faster delivery.
Will djiusa.com Still Sell The Same Drones?
Yes, we will continue to stock and sell the drones that are currently featured on our website. We will stay compliant with the FCC Covered List, offering drones that are FCC-certified with a full warranty.
